Marvin L. Anderson was born in Lindsborg on October 28, 1945 to parents David W. and Lillian Nelson Anderson. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 18, 2023 at Riverview Estates in Marquette. He graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School in 1963, and from Bethany College in 1967. Marv married Leah Ann Sundberg on January 7, 1968. They were blessed with two sons, David and Joseph. He worked as an insurance claims manager for his entire career, retiring from Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance Co. in 2014. From 1977 - 2003, Marv served as a defensive line coach and chaplain for the Bethany College football team, where his orneriness and love for the team endeared him to his players. Marv dedicated much of his time to serving the community. He was on the USD 400 School Board, the Lindsborg Planning and Zoning Committee, Lindsborg Design Committee, Midsummers Committee, Bethany Lutheran Church Council, Bethany Lutheran Church Men’s Choir, the Stephen Ministry, Smoky Valley Men’s Choir, Messiah Festival usher, and provided pulpit supply for many Lutheran congregations in the area. In 2021, he and Leah Ann were given the honor of serving as Hyllningsfest King and Queen. Marv is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leah Ann; son David and his wife, Ann; son Joseph and his wife, Barbara; grandchildren Rand, Rowan, and Rachel; his sister, Jeanette Shorgren; his brothers John and Don Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Melvin and Emma Sundberg; brothers-in-law Mike McCullough and Harlan Shogren; and his sisters-in-law, Dorene Dirks Anderson, Patricia Stafford Anderson, and Nancy Sundberg McCullough. Cremation has been chosen. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 22, 2023 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main St., Lindsborg, with Pastor Chris Deines officiating. Private interment of the urn will be at Smoky Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bethany College, Bethany Lutheran Church, and Riverview Estates.
